Selecting the songs to include on my NAKED KATE acoustic anthology was all at once daunting and exhilarating. The process of rediscovering her music all over again was almost like a journey through Time and Space, remembering where I was in my life when I first encountered the music.
The process also filled me with great gratitude for the artistry and richness Kate Bush’s music has added to my life, (and which is what I wish that my music will do for yours, as well).
Without question, for me, the album that had the most impact was “Hounds of Love”. It literally stopped me in my tracks when I first heard “Running Up that Hill” on the radio in my old beat up 1973 Delta 88 (that I bought for $75 to drive myself around in high school and college).
I’ve included 3 songs from that album on my NAKED KATE album, one of them being the title track. . . a song I have always, always loved. When I listened to it with an ear for doing it acoustically, it made immediate sense, and I was so excited to be able to finally really sing and record this beloved song.
And having the superb assistance of Alex McMurray, also on acoustic guitar, to flesh out the arrangements made it all come alive.
The album track has a different opening than this excerpt, and I hope you enjoy them BOTH.
